ISO 30000

ISO 30000 is an international standard for Ship Recycling Management Systems (SRMS). It was first published in 2009 and is designed to help ship owners and recycling facilities manage the environmental and safety risks associated with ship recycling.

The standard provides a framework for managing the end-of-life of ships in a way that is safe, environmentally sound, and socially responsible. It is applicable to all types of ships, including commercial vessels, naval ships, and offshore structures.

ISO 30000 requires organizations to establish and maintain an SRMS that includes:

  • Planning for ship recycling, including identifying hazardous materials and developing a ship recycling plan
  • Implementation of the ship recycling plan, including ensuring worker safety and environmental protection
  • Monitoring and control of ship recycling activities, including compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Continuous improvement, including regular review and updating of the SRMS

By implementing ISO 30000, ship owners and recycling facilities can demonstrate their commitment to responsible ship recycling practices, which can help to protect the environment, ensure worker safety, and promote sustainability.

ISO 30000 is intended to be used in conjunction with other management system standards, such as ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety management.
